Gua Sha

Gua sha is a traditional treatment from East Asian medicine in which the skin is scraped to release toxins and promote circulation and blood flow to injured areas. The anti-inflammatory effect of gua sha has a therapeutic impact in inflammatory conditions. It is done with repeated strokes over lubricated skin by an instrument with a smooth edge. After the skin is scraped it results in redness or discoloration that typically goes away in a couple of days.

The word "Gua" means to scrape and "Sha" from the western medicine point of view refers to the fluids that contain metabolic waste that has accumulated in the tissues and muscles. The scraping technique can release the body of blood stagnation.
